This week it’s all about politics (unless you’ve buried your head in the sand or you’re on a deserted island) and this time I think it’s going to be difficult for the orange-faced-Trump to blame anyone else or make this about the evil democrats. Well, having said that and since we’re quickly heading towards Halloween, we felt that the orange direction of this martini was fitting both politically and for the impending holiday.
We’ve had a lot of fun in the past with Solerno, which is a blood orange liquor, so we broke out the bottle again this week and started experimenting. Martinis are so incredibly flexible with vodka, gin, and sweet liquors, so we mixed it up and it took several attempts (of course) but we came up with a sweet martini that’s got enough depth to be a dinner cocktail and not just for dessert.
(do you remember these?)
Chocolate Orange Ball Martini
2 oz whipped or vanilla vodka
1 oz Tito’s (or similar) vodka
1 oz Solerno Blood Orange liqueur
2-3 drops Woodford Reserve Chocolate Bitters
Add all ingredients to ice filled shaker. Shake for 15 seconds or until chilled. Strain into martini glass. Top with 2-3 drops of chocolate bitters.
