The thought of combining flavors from this weekend’s fun included Mint Juleps and mint chocolate ice cream. How about a Chocolate Mint Julep?
We’ve been exploring Fort Lauderdale for the past few weeks and among other things have ventured to the race track (mint juleps) Jackson’s Ice cream parlor (famous around here and chocolate mint is one of my favorites) and I’ve sampled chocolate beers (ew. I’m not a beer girl, but Paul loved them) and chocolates from various establishments all along Las Olas so yeah, that about sums it up. We are chocoholics! I once spent 2 weeks trying to find the perfect mix for a chocolate-orange martini and although I did pretty good, I never achieved nirvana…
Chocolate Mint Julep
8-10 Fresh mint leaves
.25 oz Simple syrup
1.5 oz Bourbon
.5 oz White crème de cacao
Thin Mint cookie (to look like the picture)
Place the mint leaves and syrup into julep cup and gently muddle.
Add the bourbon and white crème de cacao and pack halfway with crushed ice.
Stir until the cup is frosted on the outside.
Top with more crushed ice.
Garnish with a mint sprig and Thin Mint cookie.
