As you may have noticed we have been a bit lax these past couple of weeks. We were very busy helping to make Paul’s son, Talor, and his fiancé, London’s wedding come together. Now that the wedding is over and we can breathe again, it’s obviously cocktail time and boy do we need one… (to celebrate of course!)
Tonight’s cocktail is a light and refreshing martini that is perfect for sitting on the deck and/or enjoying time with family and friends. I’m taking Ketel One Grapefruit Rose Vodka, St Germain, and home-made sweet and sour mix for this sweet, tart and fragrant martini. You can also add a splash of champagne, Prosecco or sparking wine to make it a Sparkling Grapefruit Elderflower Martini (which would make a great wedding or engagement cocktail).
Grapefruit Elderflower Martini
3.5 oz Ketel One Grapefruit Rose Vodka
.5 oz St Germain
.25 oz Homemade Sweet & Sour mix*
Add all ingredients to ice filled shaker. Shake for 10-15 seconds to chill. Strain into frozen martini glass.
Option: top with a splash of you favorite champagne, Prosecco, or sparkling wine.
Homemade Sweet & Sour Mix
Many cocktail recipes call for sour mix or sweet and sour mix…it’s the perfect combination of tart and sweet. It’s very simple and so much better then the store bought mix.
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup fresh lime juice
Bring sugar and water to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves. Let cool. Add lime juice and lemon juice and stir well. Pour into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
