I’m thinking about my step-son and his fiancé today. Yes, fiancé! He surprised his girlfriend with a trip to Germany, and proposed in lovely Bavaria. For the special couple I was going to try Bombay’s Sapphire Alpine martini, but disappointment quickly followed while reading the ingredients – gin, blue curaçao and peach schnapps….huh? So where does “Alpine” come into play here? I’m going to forget this cocktail and craft my own.
I don’t know about you, but to me the word “alpine” suggests mountains, forests, and pine trees, and I thought the perfect base for this would be St. George Terrior gin. There is no way you can smell, let alone taste this gin without immediately feeling like you are walking through a forrest of pine trees, juniper berries and sage. The finish is a little coriander and spice, with a hint of citrus.
I’m adding Blue Curaçao for a beautiful sky and amp up the citrus notes with a little fresh lemon juice. Try it straight as a martini or as the base of a gin & tonic.
Cheers to Talor and London!
